I can't believe his mother would send him back to the island, knowing she was going to kill her own son! Maybe we will see more of him next season if the Losties didn't change the future, and they end up repeating the plane crash over again.

I think she did, because in the episode where she killed him as her young self, her old self was talking to Charles Widmore about sending "their" son back to island as if it were a horrible thing. I don't remember exactly what she said, but it made sense after I knew she killed him as her young self. I do remember she was upset about sending him back. It's possible she didn't know, because playing with time travel can be a messy thing, but I think if she did know, it would make the show more "dramatic," and Lost likes to be dramatic.

Yeah. You do have a good point there. Maybe something happened because of his death that made his life worth giving up. Also, off the island poor little Faraday didn't really have much of a life at all.
